OPTOGENTICS

chr2

Studying single Golgi cell
à granule cell synapses with the light-activated protein ChR2.
A virus was used to express ChR2 in Golgi cells.  Individual Golgi cells were activated at high frequency with a series of 1 ms light pulses restricted to the soma, action potential spiking was monitored with an on-cell electrode and synaptic currents in granule cells were measured with whole-cell voltage clamp.
